Teenage pregnancy
What Causes of Teenage Pregnancy?
There are several reasons for teenage pregnancy in Uganda. The following are some of the reasons why young girls might become pregnant:
- Many girls live in child headed homes. As a result, they are forced to fend for themselves and their siblings.
- Many of the adolescent mothers ran away from their homes because of harsh parents and stepmothers.
- Men (e.g. boda boda cyclists) entice young girls with gifts and free transport and in turn the girls innocently give in to their sexual demands.
- Ugandan children are growing up at a time when the media and music industry romanticize premarital sex and portray it as “normal.”
- Myths about pregnancy: for example some learners are led to believe that if they have sex while standing they will not get pregnant.
- Lack of access to information about reproductive health
