What Causes of Teenage Pregnancy?

There are several reasons for teenage pregnancy in Uganda. The following are some of the reasons why young girls might become pregnant:

  1. Many girls live in child headed homes. As a result, they are forced to fend for themselves and their siblings.
  2. Many of the adolescent mothers ran away from their homes because of harsh parents and stepmothers.
  3. Men (e.g. boda boda cyclists) entice young girls with gifts and free transport and in turn the girls innocently give in to their sexual demands.
  4. Ugandan children are growing up at a time when the media and music industry romanticize premarital sex and portray it as “normal.”
  5.  Myths about pregnancy: for example some learners are led to believe that if they have sex while standing they will not get pregnant.
  6.  Lack of access to information about reproductive health
